The Rapture of Death

The Rapture of Death, by Prue Gibson, is an exquisite (and little) black book that is essentially a philosophical enquiry into the use of deathly imagery in contemporary art. Exploring art, literature, film and history the books delves into the idea of why the fear of death is an intrinsic part of life.

Two of our artists eX de Medici and Kate Rohde feature in the publication.

The Rapture of Death is available to purchase from Boccalatte.

eX de Medici: Photofile

The current issue of Photofile magazine has a brilliant article and interview with eX de Medici about her time serving as an official artist of the Australian War Memorial in the Solomon Islands (March 2009). The article focuses on the photographs de Medici originally intended for studio work on her return to Australia.

You can purchase a copy of Photofile online here.

eX de Medici: Australian War Memorial

In 2009 the Australian War Memorial commissioned eX de Medici as an official artist. Her task was to produce a body of work in response to the subject of peacekeeping. de Medici travelled to the Solomon Islands in March of 2009 and the resulting works form part of the exhibition, Perspectives.

Karen and Rachael were in Canberra for the opening last night. Perspectives runs from 2 September 2010 – 2 March 2011.
